August 30, 2008: La Unión to Tingo Chico
Rough dirt road, but pleasant ride. Climb to Pachas, then descent to Tingo Chico. We camped at the wonderful house of José Antonio Garralón Ruiz, a Spanish man who is getting a tourist complex together. Delightful people, and they invite guests.
Note that when people or the police talked about this stretch (La Union to Huanuco) they considered it fairly dangerous for assaults and told us we should not be out after 5pm and certainly should not camp outside the protection of a village. They didn't have any fears for us during the daytime.
