July 03, 2008: Cuenca to Oña, Ecuador

Big climbing day, even after the 700 meters ride we got in a truck (so for us subtract 2200 feet from the total gain). It was really cold on top at 3500 meters. 40 degrees, which is the coldest we've seen since Canada, I think. Then we had to go down and cross the "Grand Canyon of Ecuador", bottoming out at 1900 meters. Then climbed back up to Oña. There is a hotel on the highway, old and OK but they charged us too much. There is a pension up at the town, but it doesn't open until 8pm. Much cheaper.
